The majority of the journals subscribed to by the National University Library are available in electronic format. This means that articles you locate through our databases are often immediately available as PDF or HTML documents.
Articles with guaranteed immediate availability are easily identified by the "PDF Full Text" or "HTML Full Text" or "Link to Article" icon associated with the article citation. Just click on the icon to see the article.
Some articles will have an icon which says "Article Linker" or "Find a Copy." They require a couple of extra steps to determine where we might have a copy of the article. Just click on the icon--If we own the journal in any format you will see a record showing the dates and location/format for the journal the article appears in.
- If it is electronically available in a database or directly from the journal publisher you can follow the links (often: year>>volume>>issue) through the database or publisher’s site to reach a PDF or HTML copy.
- If the journal is part of our Science Direct service you will be able to read a more extensive abstract of the article and if you want the article you can request it by filling out the Order Document form. Orders are filled within 24 hours.
- If we own the journal in print or microfiche you will be directed to order it through our Journal Direct Article Request. Journal Direct articles are sent to you within 24 hours.
Here is an example how Article Linker options appear in search results in EBSCO.
If we don’t have either the dates that you want in our journal subscription or the journal itself (i.e. it is not in the results list) you will need to order the item through our Interlibrary Loan Service. Interlibrary loan can take up to two weeks to receive.
