In order to get full access to the Homeland Security Digital Library (HSDL) collection and save search alerts, you must first create a personal account and then request individual access. Please follow the instructions below:  

1. To log into HSDL, first create an account through the Center for Homeland Defense and Security (CHDS) by going here.
   
   Important: Use your official school email address. Personal email addresses are not permitted. If you are not a member of a government organization/agency, you may enter the following information when signing up:
   • Agency/Organization: National University
   • Position/Title: Student, or whatever is applicable here
   • Discipline: Select whatever is applicable here
   • Government tier or sector: Higher Education or Research
      
2. Retrieve the automated email sent to your school email address, and use the link in that email to return to the CHDS website and set a password. Then log in with your new credentials to CHDS.
    
3. Request individual access to the Homeland Security Digital Library (HSDL) collection. Account creation does not grant access; this is a separate step. Go to this page and select the option for "Individual Access". This will then provide you with full access to the HSDL collection.
    
4. After running a search in the HSDL collection, you can click on "Set a New Content Alert" in the top right of the results to be alerted to new content related to your search.

Your login and password will be the same for both www.chds.us and www.hsdl.org. You can add more than one email address to your account, so please do not create multiple accounts, as it can create issues with access.
