How do I locate a court case in the Library?

How can I find court cases online?

You have access to Nexis Uni, a powerful legal research database that makes it easy to search for court decisions.

To get started:

  1. From the Library homepage, go to A–Z Databases and select the letter "N"
  2. Open Nexis Uni and click the Legal tab in the top menu
  3. In the Content Type box, select Cases

You can search in whichever way works best for you:

  • By citation — if you have a case citation like 33 Cal. App. 5th 230, here's how to read it:
    • 33 = volume number
    • Cal. App. = California Appellate Reports (the reporter)
    • 5th = fifth series of that reporter
    • 230 = the page where the case begins
  • By party names — for example: Bevis v. Terrace View Partners, LP
  • By keywords — for example: breach and contracts
