How do I find a list of journals by subject area?
You may use the Library's Find a Resource tool to locate journals by exact title, keyword in title, or ISSN (International Standard Serial Number). The search results will tell you if the Library subscribes to the journal, what years the Library subscribes to, and in which databases. Note, however, that results will include only those publications the Library subscribes to.
You may also use Find a Resource to browse journals by subject, as shown below. Once you select a broad subject area, such as Education, you can select a more specific subtopic.
Alternatively, you may search the Ulrichsweb database to locate journals on your topic. Searching Ulrichsweb will result in more results than Find a Resource because Ulrichsweb will include titles to which the Library does not subscribe. Ulrichsweb does not provide access to journals or full-text articles; it is simply a tool that allows you to find information about journals, magazines, newspapers, etc. It will also identify whether or not a publication is peer-reviewed. For further details, please see our Library FAQ: How do I determine if a particular journal is peer-reviewed?
On the Ulrichsweb home page, simply enter a Title, ISSN, or search term to find journals or other periodicals related to your topic. The results page will provide a list of relevant journals which may be printed, downloaded, or saved to a list (requires a My Ulrich’s Account), as shown below.
Finally, most individual databases allow you to browse journals by subject area. To access all Library databases, click here.
When searching through a database, look for titled areas such as Browse, Subjects, Browse by Subject, Thesaurus, etc. See the example below for the browse Journals by discipline feature in SAGE Journals Online. Keep in mind, however, that browsing by subject within an individual database will only retrieve results for journals included in that database.
