How do I locate information about state, federal, and international labor laws?
To locate federal labor laws, we recommend that you start out by reviewing the U.S. Department of Labor's Summary of the Major Laws of the Department of Labor and USA.gov's Labor Laws and Issues page.
To find state labor laws, we recommend that you start out by reviewing the U.S. Department of Labor's State Labor Laws page. It will provide links out to the state labor offices.
To find international labor laws, we recommend that you start out by reviewing the International Labour Organization's Labour Standards.
To find scholarly articles written about labor laws, we recommend conducting a keyword search using NavigatorSearch (formerly Roadrunner), the central search box found on the Library's homepage. NavigatorSearch (formerly Roadrunner) searches most of our Library's database content so it is a great starting point for any research topic. Use advanced search techniques covered in Searching 101 like subject searching, truncation, and Boolean operators to make your search more precise. You may also read about these search techniques by referring to the Preparing to Search section of our Research Process guide.
For example, you could conduct a search for the following search string: (employment) AND ("labor law") AND ((domestic* OR international*)). You can see an example of this search by clicking here. You may want to modify your keywords as you learn more about this topic.
To find legal cases involving labor law, you can use the Nexis Uni (formerly LexisNexis) database. On the Nexis Uni homepage, select Cases. You may search by citation, parties, or by topic. Note that you can choose either federal or state jurisdiction.
