How do I find qualitative or quantitative research articles in the Library?

Using APA PsycArticles / APA PsycInfo to find a qualitative or quantitative research article

Very few of the library's databases will allow you to search for studies that used specific methodologies. APA PsycArticles and APA PsycInfo are the exceptions; these databases do allow you to limit your search results to show articles that use a particular methodology.

Here's how you can get started in APA PsycArticles or APA PsycInfo:

  1. Run your search.
  2. Click "All Filters" (under the search box). The "all filters" window will open on the right-hand side of the screen.

  3. Scroll down until you find the Methodology heading.
  4. When you click on the Methodology heading, you'll see the option to restrict your results to type

Using NavigatorSearch to find a qualitative or quantitative research article:

NavigatorSearch does NOT include an option to limit my methodology. So, it may be effective to include your methodology as one of your search terms.

In the example below, using the Library’s NavigatorSearch, we have constructed a search to locate quantitative studies about job satisfaction.

Note that we have placed the word quantitative in the abstract of the article. Authors are likely to identify which type of research design they used in the abstract.

You will also want to limit your search to Scholarly/Peer Reviewed Journals.
