How do I find articles that used a specific test instrument?
APA PsycArticles or PsycInfo
Very few of the Library's databases will allow you to search for studies that used specific methodologies; two are APA PsycArticles or APA PsycInfo. The content focuses primarily on psychology and the behavioral and social sciences. However, keep in mind that test instruments may be used across disciplines.
Follow the steps below to locate articles in the APA PsycArticles or PsycInfo databases that used a particular test instrument.
- On the Library's home page, click on the A-Z Databases link. Next, select the letter "A." Scroll down to select APA PsycArticles.
- Scroll down to the field called Tests & Measures. Enter the name of your test instrument. Note that you DO need to enter additional search terms before you can run the search. We recommend keeping it broad and using terms that are in the title of the instrument you are looking for.
- Press the Search button.
The results will include only those articles that have your instrument listed in the Tests & Measures field.

Navigator Search
While NavigatorSearch (formerly Roadrunner) does not have a dedicated Tests & Measures field, as does APA PsycArticles, you may use phrase searching to locate articles that mention that particular instrument somewhere in the text. Note, however, that the instrument may not necessarily have been used. You will need to read the article's methods or instrumentation section to determine if the instrument was actually used.
Follow the steps below to locate articles in NavigatorSearch (formerly Roadrunner) that may have used a particular test instrument.
- Go to the Library's home page and locate the NavigatorSearch (formerly Roadrunner) box in the center of the screen.
- Enter the test instrument name into the search box, placing quotation marks around the name to ensure that it is searched as an exact phrase.
- Click Submit.
- The results will include articles that mention the test instrument somewhere in the full-text, abstract, subject terms or references. Again, you will need to read the article's methods or instrumentation section to determine if the instrument was actually used.
