I have an assignment to find peer-reviewed journal articles, a book chapter, and another scholarly source (such as a website). Where do I begin?

To start, we suggest watching the Library's quick tutorial video How to Find Resources in Navigator Search for tips on using NavigatorSearch, the central search box on the Library's homepage. NavigatorSearch searches most of our Library's database content and is typically the best starting point for your research. You may read more about database search techniques in our Understanding Research Guide.

To locate peer-reviewed journal articles, we recommend using NavigatorSearch, the central search box found on the Library's homepage. You may use advanced search techniques like phrase searching, truncation, and Boolean operators to make your search more precise. For more information about these search techniques, see the Preparing to Search Guide. For this assignment, remember to check both the full-text and scholarly/peer-reviewed journals boxes so that your search results will be available from full-text, scholarly journals.

To locate a book chapter, we recommend using the Ebook Central database. You can access Ebook Central in the A-Z Databases list or by going to Research Resources and selecting Ebook Databases. Remember that Ebook Central includes the full text of the entire book, while your assignment may require you to select a single chapter. For additional details, see our FAQ on locating a chapter.

Additional scholarly sources may include books, dissertations, websites, conference proceedings, videos, etc. If you are unclear whether or not your Professor will accept one of these sources, we recommend that you ask them for clarification. To locate a website, a search engine such as Google would be the best choice. We suggest limiting your results to a particular domain such as .edu or .org so that your results are more likely to be appropriate for academic use. For instructions on how to limit by domain, click here.

For additional information on scholarly sources, please see our Academic, Popular & Trade Publications Guide. We also suggest that you review the Evaluating Information Guide to ensure that your selected resource is scholarly.
