I was searching in a library database and my session timed out. Why did this happen?

Library database vendors (EBSCO, ProQuest, Gale, etc.) control the amount of time reached until your search session times out due to inactivity. In most cases, the Library is unable to modify this time period. These practices are in place to prevent unauthorized users from gaining access to costly subscription-based database content.

Please note that times vary from database to database, with some databases timing out after only 30 minutes of inactivity. For your convenience, the session timeout period for NavigatorSearch and the EBSCO databases has been extended to 8 hours

To avoid losing valuable research content, we recommend saving articles and other resources as you discover them. A simple way to save links to individual articles and, in some cases search results, is to save the persistent URLs. For details and screenshots, please see our Persistent URLs Guide
