Why am I prompted to review EBSCO's Personal Data and Usage Retention policy before accessing NavigatorSearch or an EBSCOhost database?
When accessing NavigatorSearch or any EBSCO database, EBSCO's Personal Data Retention and Usage Policy will display if it is your first time accessing these resources following a new update. Consent is required to fully access available content as well as manage your EBSCO personal accounts.
You may choose to withdraw consent, but note that you cannot use any of the personalization features offered by a MyEBSCOhost account. You will also need to withdraw consent each time you access these resources, as your personal information is not stored in order to remember this setting.
This form appears to users who are accessing these resources and are creating or activating a personal MyEBSCOhost account on the EBSCO platform.
Personalization with an EBSCO account offers the following:
- Save articles, books, conference papers, reports, etc., to My Dashboard - either under "Saved" or "Projects."
- Access saved items or "Projects."
- Save search queries.
- See your recent activity (only available for your current session).
- Create alerts.
- Check out books and/or magazines.
To support personal accounts, EBSCO’s platform must retain some identifier information to return you to your account each time you log in, such as your name, your university affiliation, your student status (current or alumni), and your school email.
Users will be prompted to review the Data Retention and Usage consent form:
- When initially logging in using single sign-on credentials for OpenAthens, since the Library has automatic personalization activated for NavigatorSearch and EBSCO databases.
