How do I use the "Cited By" option in Google Scholar?

If you've already found an article on your topic, it's often helpful to look for newer articles that cite it. There's a good chance they're on the same topic!

Google Scholar can often give you a list of sources that cite an article (or other kinds of sources, like books). Here's how:

  1. In Google Scholar, run a search for the title of an article.

  2. On the results page, click the Cited By link. It will appear underneath the article's abstract.

  3. You'll be taken to a list of more recently published articles that cite the article you searched for. You can search for keywords within these articles by clicking the "Search within citing articles" option at the top of the page.

Don't forget to add the NU Library to your Google Scholar settings! Once you do so, Google Scholar will show you which articles are available for free through the library. If there's a book or article you need, but can't find through Scholar or the library, you can request it (for free) through interlibrary loan.
