What resources can help me estimate the sample size for my study?
Start by checking with your Dissertation Chair to see if they recommend specific resources, authors, or tools for determining sample size.
Next, explore the resources on sample size included in the Doctoral Center under Developing the Qualitative Research Design or Developing the Quantitative Research Design. These provide guidance on both data saturation (common in qualitative studies) and power analysis (common in quantitative studies).
A widely used tool for calculating minimum sample size in quantitative research is G*Power, which you can download here: G*Power Download. The Academic Success Center provides instructions on installing and using G*Power, as well as a weekly group session on G*Power.
To locate additional resources, explore SAGE Research Methods. Enter keywords such as sample size or sampling to access articles, book chapters, and videos on both qualitative and quantitative approaches.
